Geoff Ong loves inside jokes, the ocean, longboarding, and those days when it’s just a little bit too hot. He also makes soulful pop music bursting with fun, summery, instantly relatable tunes- a perfect soundtrack for fans of summer road trips, hanging out, and eating ice cream.
In June 2011 Geoff released his self-produced debut EP, Pictures, to rave reviews in local press, and a feature on KiwiFM as their independent album of the week. Singles and music videos from ‘Pictures’ saw nationwide radio airplay on KiwiFM, bFM, The Flat FM, and nationwide TV airplay on C4 and Juice TV. While promoting Pictures, Geoff also performed live on TV One's Good Morning and was the subject of a story on TV One's Asia Down Under.
In 2014, Geoff accepted a scholarship to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, moved to Boston, and wasted no time getting acquainted with the city’s music scene. Since the move, he has released a new EP chronicling his experiences with moving to Boston, aptly titled The Boston EP. Singles from The Boston EP have won accolades from The Boston Herald, PopMatters, Songwriting Magazine, and The Music Times, and taken Geoff through performances everywhere from the legendary Club Passim in Boston and The Bitter End in NYC, from The Hotel Cafe in LA to the SXSW festival in Austin.
So if you’re into great music, living the dream, and falling in love, join Geoff Ong on his quest to do all three.
Here are some nice things that some nice people have said about me (I got tired of talking in the third person):
“Ong makes pop that would make Hall & Oates proud… The smart, tight, jaunty “Massachusetts Avenue” is my favorite, but Ong has a whole EP of neo-soul called “The Boston EP” that sounds nothing like winter.”
– The Boston Herald
“…could appeal to fans of artists as diverse as Ed Sheeran, Michael Kiwanuka and The Magic Numbers.”
– Songwriting Magazine
“Ong delivers each [song] with unmistakable and unwavering energy and each song is easy to relate to. In fact, the only problem I can find with ‘Pictures’ is that there are only five songs – Geoff Ong is definitely an artist I can’t wait to hear more from.”
– New Zealand Musician Magazine
“Ong is a one-man, soul-band you are going to want to keep an eye on.”
“A talented self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Geoff’s incorporated brass, keys, and some smooth soul… it sounds Sunday chill-out good.”
“If people don’t like your music they’re not listening. Like, you can find something to talk shit about almost any musician, but there’s nothing not to like about what you do.”
– This really nice (and possibly drunk) dude called Bryan who I met at SXSW
